How I Repaired My iPhone 8+ Screen

I decided to try to repair my phone’s screen myself. So I bought this iPhone 8+ screen repair kit from IFIXIT.com! The kit comes with all the tools you need for the project, and there are detailed instructions on removing the screen on their website. Here’s how I did it:

Step 1: Remove external screws from the bottom of the phone (by the microphone and speaker).

Step 2: Use clear tape (packing tape is probably better) to cover the front of the screen.

This helps prevent excess shards of glass from falling. I overlapped the tape a bit to be sure no shards came through the separation between strips of tape.

Step 3: Use a hair dryer to loosen the glue around the screen that attaches to the phone’s frame.

I used the medium setting on my hair dryer, using a circling motion around the phones edges. This helps from any part of the phone overheating.

Step 4: Use the suction cup to detach or pull up the glass screen from the frame.

This step didn’t work as well for me I think maybe because of the type of tape I used to secure the glass. Instead I used the flat triangle tool (“pick”) included to pry the screen up.

Step 5: Unscrew the metal plate  (“bracket covering”) over the “logic board” on the right side of the battery. Remove the logic board.
