Let me preface this by telling y’all a story that happened the other day. So, Kacie, James and I are in the house, you know because of Ms. Rona (Coronavirus) has us all on punishment right now, minding our own lives. Kacie stopped James to ask him, “What year were you born?” Simple enough right? So he answers, “1988”. Now this is where it gets deep. Kacie, who is 6 years old-born in 2014, is astonished and says “YOU WERE BORN IN THE NINETEENS?!” He ran in the room and told me and I almost died laughing, all the while she’s in the other room cracking up laughing in shock! So, now I feel ancient… all thanks to my 1st grader who came for my millennia after living a strong 6 years on this planet. Just so happens when he bust in and told me what she said, I was binge watching “Twins the New Trend” on YouTube. Who were ALREADY making me feel ancient!
So I was born in 1989, and people born in the 80s always say that I’m not an 80s baby because I grew up in the 90s. *eye roll* Whatevs! (remember that one?) Well, although I don’t feel THOSE neigh sayers, I do feel them when it comes to these twins. Fred and Tim Williams were born in 1998 in Gary, Indiana, so they’re basically 2000s babies too. The boys react to music videos and songs that are, eh, before their time, making me feel like the “oldies-but-goodies” are the “ancients” SMH. I sat listening to them say they’ve either never heard of classic songs or never heard of, at all, the likes of those like… WHITNEY HOUSTON ! I mean… REALLY?! Sheesh!
So, I fell victim to the astonishment and was sucked right on in. I watched them react, and say to the screen that they’d never heard of Erykah Badu, never heard a song from Mariah Carey (that she was just Nick Cannon’s ex to them) or heard Alicia Keys’ “No One”. How Sway?! But, they have gotten the attention of People’s Magazine, Queen Laftifah, Kelly Clarkson, and Alicia Keys who have all reached out to the Twins.
The boys have been making reaction videos for a year, since 2019, listening to all genres of music. Their highest view count comes from Phil Collins’ “In the Air Tonight”, reaching 7.4 million views in just 2 months. Their oldest review is Machine Gun Kelly’s “Candy” featuring Trippie Redd (who I have no clue who that is, but I met Kelly once and though “well, he’s super tall”), and the newest is “Bitter Sweet Symphony” by The Verve (posted just last night). They haven’t posted a video they or I haven’t enjoyed yet. I’ll admit they have even put me on songs that I’ve never heard before! I think all 80s and under babies should tune in to them for a good laugh at yourself for being, well, old AF LOL.
