My Favorite Miya
Miya has a diverse company work history; KIPP Saint Louis Public Schools, MERS/Missouri Goodwill Industries, Banana Republic, Whelan Security, Hollywood Casino, Convergys Corporation, National Asset Recovery Systems, Marriott Hotels, Linens N’ Things, The Gaines-Oldman Black Culture Center-University of Missouri, Best Buy Electronics, Victoria’s Secret, Delia’s, Pottery Barn Kids, and Six Flags-Saint Louis. With volunteer experience from College Summit, Delta Sigma Theta Incorporated, United Ambassadors-University of Missouri, The Red Cross, local Food Banks, and The Salvation Army.
Miya began her employment journey in 2004 while studying Technical Resources at Gateway Institute of Technology High School. At age fifteen, she decided to start applying for customer service and cashier jobs. While in high school, she worked as a cashier or store clerk for many companies. Miya was promoted from seasonal worker to part-time employee at Six Flags-Saint Louis, Delia’s clothing store, Victoria’s Secret, and Best Buy Electronics. While at Gateway, Miya was Co-Captain of the Lady Jags Dance Team, and participant in the College Summit program and journalism club. As a member of the Journalism Club, Miya led a protest of 500 students, who walked from Gateway High School to Saint Louis City Hall, in 2007, to protect future Saint Louis Public Schools graduates from losing their accreditation for college.
