“Black Joy is Resistance” Opening Ceremony

Kristian “Kris” Blackmon presented her first art exhibition of the year on Friday, January 10, 2020 at the Urban Artist Alliance (Urb Arts) in Old North Saint Louis, MO. The opening reception for the “Black Joy IS Resistance” art exhibition showcased “the joys of Being Black”. The event began at 7 PM, featuring paintings and portraits from local #STLMADE artists, curated and hosted by Kris herself, with Siddal the Selecta as the DJ for the evening . The exhibition is available for viewing by appointment or at Urb Arts events from January 10-26, 2020.

WordUp! Open Mic’s 5th Anniversary Celebration

WordUp! Open Mic celebrated it’s 5th year supporting the creative arts in Saint Louis, Missouri on Tuesday, January 7th, 2020! The celebration was also the first WordUp! open mic of the year, setting the tone for the fifty-one weeks to come. This open mic was an inclusive and safe space for the TWENTY-SEVEN performers to bare all and share their messages on stage. Dacia “InnerGy” Polk and Louis Conphliction hosted the evening, with DJ Domo on the turntables. The celebration was held at Legacy Books and Cafe, 5249 Delmar Blvd., where WordUp! will be hosted every Tuesday this year!

Sir Ervin’s Surprise Open Mic

On Friday, January 3rd, 2020, Sir Ervin James Williams III woke up Saint Louis, Missouri offering his “Surprise Open Mic”. The night was jammed packed with awesome vibes and beautiful, powerful people. Sir Ervin Williams hosted the show, with DJ Prospect, photography by The Saint Louis American, and Benjamin on the drums. Timeless Flavors chef’s, Derrick & John, provided delectable hispanic nacho and taco bar drink tickets were available for purchase at only $5. The event was held at 3020 S Jefferson St, a private event space, tickets were $10 on Eventbrite.

The Journey Begins

I can proudly say that completed my resolution for 2019 by eliminating stress from my life and a version of myself that I am proud of! I recognize resolutions as dreams of a future self; it starts with a vision, turns into plans, and manifests with consistency. This year, blocking the stressful energies lost me my job and truck, caused my family to live without essential utilities, and threatened us with homelessness. I stayed encouraged and motivated, decided to listen to and trust my Spirit, appreciate the journey, and find joy in all of life’s experiences.
